5 Themes of Geography

Today started the first day of Geography Awareness Week. It is only fitting to get to an important root of geography. Geography comes from the Greek “ge” and “graphein” meaning “to write about the earth”. That is geography. Now lets go further. There are 5 themes of geography.

-Location: Where a place is located on this planet

-Place: Physical and human attributes of a geographic area

-Human-Environmental Interaction: How human beings deal with their environment

-Movement: transport of goods, people, ideas.

-Regions: geographic areas with distinct features.
