Covid-19 Effect On Tourism – Tourism Geography

The Covid-19 pandemic has had its effect on so many things throughout the world. So far, there are at least 661,000 confirmed deaths from Covid-19, between January 2020 and July 2020. According to the World Health Organization, influenza kills between 250,000 and 500,000 people annually. Covid-19 has proven to be more deadly in 6 months than influenza is. Covid-19 has spread quickly throughout the world.

One economic sector that has been immensely affected is tourism. With the Covid-19 pandemic, one response is that travel is being restricted worldwide. With travel being restricted, tourism is being hurt. Why? Tourism is something that depends on people traveling. Travel is a form of movement. Movement is one of the five themes of geography. This is why there is tourism geography. Tourism by its nature is geographic. Tourism geographic is a subfield of human geography. Tourism takes place because of the movement of people, movement of things, movement of money. Geography is a major factor in tourism.

With the movement of people and money restricted, this has hurt tourism. This is cost many jobs in the tourism industry. It shows how dynamic and broad geography is. It also shows how things like Covid-19 can have a ripple effect world wide.
